New Crochet Pattern: Adorable Dachshund for Dog Lovers

There’s something special about a dachshund. Maybe it’s their long little bodies, or their big curious eyes. Maybe it’s the way they trot around with confidence, like they own the place. Whatever it is, these dogs have captured the hearts of so many — and now, they can steal yours in yarn form too!

I'm so excited to introduce my newest crochet pattern: the Dachshund Amigurumi.

Inspired by Real-Life Doggos 🧡

This pattern was inspired by one of the most iconic and beloved breeds — loyal, quirky, and full of personality. I’ve tried to capture their essence in every stitch: the floppy ears, the proud chest, and those charming little paws that seem to tip-tap across the floor.

I designed this pattern to be beginner-friendly but with enough detail to make it satisfying for seasoned crocheters too. And yes, you can absolutely customize the colors to match your own furry friend — or create a whole collection of mini dachshunds in every shade imaginable!

What You’ll Need

You’ll need your usual amigurumi suspects:

  • Cotton or acrylic yarn in Caramel and Black (I used Schachenmayr Catania in 383 Zimt and 110 Black)
  • 3 mm crochet hook (or whatever you’re comfy with)
  • A pair of 5 mm Safety eyes 
  • Stuffing
  • Stitch markers and a tapestry needle

Stitches and Abbreviations:

  • ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet
  • 2sc = increase (2 sc in the next stitch)
  • sc2tog = decrease (single crochet two stitches together)
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • st(s) = stitch(es)
  • BLO: back loops only

Pattern notes:

Skill level: Intermediate

Sizing: Using the mentioned materials the Dachshund measures approx. 3x4 inches (8x10 cm): If you prefer a smaller or larger plush you can use a different hook size and yarn.

HEAD:

Start with Caramel:

 

R1: Magic ring. 6 sc in ring (6 sts)

R2: 2sc, sc in the next 3 sts, 2sc in the next 2 sts (9 sts)

R3. sc in the next 3 sts with Caramel, sc in the next 2 sts with Black, sc in the next 4 sts with Caramel (9 sts)

R4: * sc, 2sc, sc * with Caramel, sc in the next 3 sts with Black, * 2sc, sc, 2sc * with Caramel (12 sts)

R5: sc in the next 5 sts with Caramel, sc in the next 2 sts with Black, sc in the next 5 sts with Caramel (12 sts) (pic.1)

R6: sc in the next 3 sts with Caramel, sc in the next 6 sts with Black, sc in the next 3 sts with Caramel (12 sts)

R11-R12: sc in each st with Black (18 sts) 

Embroider the nose with a long strand of Black: From inside the head, pull the needle out the center of the magic ring. Insert the needle 2 rows above (pic.5). Pull the needle out of the following st on the left. Insert the needle in the same st of the center as before (pic.6). Repeat the same steps until the space is filled with yarn. Pull the needle out of the left corner of the triangle, and insert the needle in the right corner of the triangle (pic.7). Fasten off inside the head.

Insert the safety eyes between R9 and R10. (pic.8)

R13: * sc, sc2tog * 6 times (12 sts)

Insert stuffing.

R14: * sc, sc2tog * 4 times (8 sts)

Cut the yarn and fasten it off.

EARS (make 2):

With Black

 

R1: Ch4, sc in the 2° ch from the hook, sc in the next 2 ch, turn (3 sts)

R2:-R7: Ch1, sc in the next 3 sts, turn (3 sts) (pic.9)

R8: Ch1, skip the first st, sc in the next 2 sts, turn (2 sts)

R9: Ch1, sc in each st, turn (2 sts)

R10: Ch1, skip the first st, sc in the next st, sc 8 times along the side of the ear.

Cut the yarn and leave a long strand. (pic.10)
